Math – Mrs. Tapley 5th grade mathematicians demonstrated their learning so far this year on a series of “exit tickets”. This was sent home with them on Wednesday. Students then continued their work with decimals by adding and subtracting decimals. They also continued to practice their rounding skills.
ELA – Mrs. Thoner We continued reading the novel Chains and focused on character traits and how a character changes depending on the interactions they have with other characters. We worked on writing the gist of a piece of reading, and how to pull out the most important parts of the plot.
Super Studies – Mrs. Bebell This week we shifted our focus to our first science unit of the year about classification of living things. The students explored the concept of binomial classification by developing a classification scheme for their shoes, which kept splitting them up into two categories. On Wednesday, they learned some strategies for reading a textbook, and then read about the history of modern classification. This week the 5/6 students also helped out with making applesauce from the apples the 3/4 class picked in the school orchard.
