5/6 – This week in music classes we talked about the exciting news of being able to sing in school again and that we would be doing some singing in the near future. We listened to a piece of music that we will be learning and performing with the 7/8 class. This piece is a mashup of four songs from the movie The Greatest Showman! We talked about how we were supposed to watch the video from my friends Richard and Gayle this week but that unfortunately we wouldn’t have it ready until next week. We talked about a media project that we will be doing coming up where students will choose a poem from the book I Never Saw Another Butterfly, then they will create music in Garage Band that fits the tone of that poem and either choose or create images that also fit the tone and make a video to showcase the words of the poem.

1/2 Class Bunny Ears

Advanced ELA

Students in the 6th grade, are working on a three-week Greek and Latin roots, suffixes, and affixes unit.

The 7th and 8th-grade students are finishing up their first 12-page paper–a thesis that includes an introduction, literary review, literary application, and summation of findings. Students completed Native Son and Invisible Man. They have worked diligently on this piece for two weeks and have produced results that might match any first-year college English essay. Be sure to congratulate them on their hard work. This week, they will begin reading In Search of Our Mothers’ Gardens, by Alice Walker.
