LIKE the Movie

The movie LIKE will be shown to students in 5-8 th grades on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.

This take-action, inspiring film is the 2nd installment in the award-winning iNDIEFLIX Mental Health Trilogy, created to entertain, engage and enlighten about issues surrounding mental health. Before Covid, 2 billion smartphone owners were checking their phones, on average, 150 times a day, and the enforced isolation and mandated screen time of the past year has only increased this figure.  Research continues to confirm that having your head down, staring at the screen, chasing “likes” and seeking “followers” is the perfect recipe for low self-esteem, isolation and depression, as well as loss of focus and patience.

The filmmakers of LIKE inspires kids and teens to consider a life of JOMO (joy of missing out) as opposed to FOMO. They use their proven 4 E formula:  entertainment, empathy, enlightenment and a heavy dose of empowerment, arming their audiences with easy-to-execute strategies to change their habits that very same day.  Research and data is plentiful:  happiness surges when we have digital balance, not overload; when we give ourselves time to look at actual trees, animals and all things nature, as well as interact – however we can – with other humans.

Extended Summer Learning  —Save the dates

Extended learning is open to all students in grades K-7 from July 12 to August 6 this summer. At this time,  summer learning schedules are in the works and students and families are being asked so they may decide which sessions they are interested in opting into. Extended learning will be available five days  per week. Mornings will consist of academics and afternoons will include art camps, swim lessons,  etc.

Spring Sports Updates

Spring sports will begin this week. Students in grades 4-8 will begin with two weeks of soccer, two weeks of basketball, and two weeks of cross country/volleyball. Practices will be held on Tuesday through Friday from 3:00-4:30.  Games are in Sedgwick only on the following dates; 5/14, 5/21 and 5/28.

Boat Building Updates

Eric Blake and the 7th and 8th grade students have used the newly renovated garage space to scrape, putty, sand and paint 3 skiffs built by former Brooklin School students. Next week, students will release the boats into Center Harbor where they will spend the summer tied up at the docks waiting for community members to unleash them and take them for a row.
