News from Mrs. WIlson
Pre-K and Kindergarten students dissected lima beans to explore the parts of a seed, and are watching their beans begin to sprout in ziplock baggies on our classroom windows. Students were surprised to discover “a little round, red house with no doors and no windows with a star inside” was a delicious snack (hint: slice an apple in half, cutting through the core). “Go fish” for sight words was one of our favorite literacy activities this week. Pre-K and K students have been earning classroom cash (tickets) for demonstrating Safe, Respectful and Responsible behaviors, and were able to “purchase” items from our classroom store on Friday. Pre-K and K mathematicians continue to work on counting the say ten way, fluency to 20, addition and subtraction stories. Pre-K students enjoy math theater – where they could act out a subtraction story for the song “Five green and speckled frogs”.  Kindergarten students took the Literacy and Math NWEA’s this week as well.
News from Mrs. Baird
This week, first and second grade was very eggciting!! We started first thing on Monday morning with three chicks that decided to hatch early! And the rest of the week, we were able to watch two chicks hatch live, and ended up with 12 chicks total! We did many activities this week. We read about how eggs can survive in the wild, with one of the aspects being how strong an egg is. We put this to the test by squeezing an egg as hard as we could lengthwise, and then we walked on them!! We also got to learn why we use eggs in baking, and then got to test that with Ellen by making blueberry muffins! They were delicious! Overall, a very memorable week! Students also took the math and reading nwea tests.

3/4th grade math – The students took their NWEA’s this week and overall did a great job! We started a fun unit on fractions where we are making a pizza store.  They seem to be really enjoying the different style of learning.

5th through 8th grade math – The students took their NWEA’s this week and overall did a great job!  We are doing a unit in both classes on understanding credit cards and credit card debt.  They are asking a lot of questions and learning quite a bit.  I hope they all find this unit helpful!

3/4 Super Studies

This week, the students practiced identifying trees using field guides in preparation for making their own field guides to the school grounds next week. For Forest Friday, the students had a discussion about what they love about campfires, what risks are involved, and fire safety. Then they practiced making tiny fires by using fire striker tools to ignite a cotton ball!
5/6 Super Studies
This week, the class finished recording narration for a video about their imagined journey of the Norse coin from a Viking village in Norway to Brooklin. They also enjoyed a special Zoom presentation from YouTube sensation Mr. Nicky, who taught them how to write a historical parody song. For Forest Friday, the students had a discussion about what they love about campfires, what risks are involved, and fire safety.
