Book Fair – all grades
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to town! We will be celebrating Dr Seuss’s birthday on Tuesday with the official opening of the Book Fair and a birthday party before dismissal at 2:00. Kids will be filling out wishlists for books, so please ask them to share it with you if they forget. Students can purchase items from their wishlist on Wednesday or Thursday. The Book Fair will be open on Wednesday evening, so parents and families attending the sports banquet can purchase items then as well. On Thursday we will have an extra read-aloud time in the morning for reading buddies and kids will be able to make wishlist purchases during the day. If you are sending payment with a student, please put cash or check into an envelope.
Scholarships – grades 3-8
The Maine College Circle Aspiration Scholarships are well on their way. Many kids are participating in this with excitement, which makes the process fun! The deadline for submission is March 14, so we just have two more weeks. All interviews should be complete by now. If your child still has not done their interview, please support them by making sure that it is complete by Monday. If they have no one lined up, they can watch an interview online, but will need your help finding something appropriate. I have linked interviews in their doc for some students. If you are stuck or don’t know what I am talking about, please reach out! I am working with students during SEL classes, and one-on-one as per their request. Most students will need to do some work at home in order to make the submission deadline, so please ask your child how you can help them.
EcoClub – grades 2-8
We have a new afterschool offering starting March 10 and running through May 19. The EcoClub will be Monday afternoons for grades 2-8. The afternoon will begin with a snack, and will focus on getting kids into nature around the Brooklin School. Kids will grow their connection to the outdoors through play and skill development. Participation in the program is by enrollment, so please call the school or reply to me(Annie Porter) directly to sign your child up.
Girls on the Run – grade 3-6
Woohoo! GOTR begins a second season beginning Tuesday April 1 and running Tuesday and Thursday afternoons through May with the celebratory 5k on June 1. This year our head coach will be Ms Monique and our assistant coach will be Ms Golda! Registration runs through the month of March. Please register at girlsontherunmaine.org. Financial aid is available for all students who need assistance and can be accessed through the online registration process.
Big Brothers Big Sisters – grade 1-7
Our Big Brothers Big Sisters program is ready to launch! BBBS is a nation-wide mentoring program and we are thrilled to be able to offer this within our afterschool program. We have a limited number of adult “Bigs” from our local community who have completed the application process and training are ready to be paired with “Littles”. Pairings are made carefully with the hope that the mentoring relationship can develop over time. If you think your child would benefit from having a “Big” in their life, please reach out to me and I will pass on the application to you. Parents/guardians will need to fill out an application for their child to begin the matching process.
