Author/Illustrator Marty Kelley to Visit Blue Hill
On Saturday, October 21, at 10 a.m., Blue Hill Public Library and Word, the Blue Hill literary arts festival, will host a free presentation by Marty Kelley, author and illustrator of Ollie and Prema, Almost Everybody Farts, Pugnapped!, and many other picture books and books for young readers.
His presentation, an engaging, fast-paced explanation of how he creates his wacky stories and illustrations, is intended for kids age 6 and older.
A former second-grade teacher, Marty will explain the writing process from generating ideas to writing rough drafts to editing and revising. He’ll share a rough draft or two to demonstrate why it’s so important to keep working and reworking the writing, and he’ll show the kids how he creates the artwork for his books.
The presentation will end with a drawing demonstration and questions from the audience.

Word takes place at various sites in Blue Hill October 19-22, offering author conversations, creative workshops, and more. The evening speakers this year will be Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Jennifer Egan and New York Times critic A.O. Scott. Warm Clothes Swap
Start looking through your kids outgrown gently used winter gear to see what you need and what you can donate. Save your kids clothes that they have grown out of and bring them into school if they are clean and not ripped and leave them in the donation box in the entry way. Soon there will be a rack of clean, warm clothes for you to go through. Leave what you can and take what you need.
